Day 4 — Talking About Your Daily Routine
Learn Conversational German in 30 Days
Today’s Goal
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- talk about your morning routine,
- say when you get up,
- say what you do before work or school,
- say when you go to work or school,
- say when you come home,
- say what you do in the evening,
- and describe a simple daily routine in German.
Today we move from talking about who you are to talking about what you do every day. This is one of the most useful conversational topics because people often talk about work, school, family life, routines, and daily activities.
1. Review from Day 3
Say these sentences aloud:

The expression jeden Tag means every day.

22. Day 4 Speaking Challenge
Describe your whole day in German.
Morgens stehe ich um sechs Uhr auf.
Dann dusche ich und frühstücke.
Um sieben Uhr gehe ich zur Arbeit.
Ich arbeite bis vier Uhr.
Um fünf Uhr komme ich nach Hause.
Am Abend esse ich mit meiner Familie zu Abend.
Danach lerne ich ein bisschen Deutsch.
Um zehn Uhr gehe ich ins Bett.
First time: Read the model.
Second time: Change the times and activities so they match your own routine.
Third time: Try to describe your day without reading.
Real-Life Challenge
Today, talk about your routine in German for at least one minute.
You do not need complicated sentences. Use short sentences connected with useful words such as:
dann — then
und — and
aber — but
danach — after that
For example:
Ich stehe um sechs Uhr auf. Dann dusche ich. Danach frühstücke ich. Um sieben Uhr gehe ich zur Arbeit. Am Abend komme ich nach Hause und esse mit meiner Familie.
If you forget a word, do not stop completely. Use the German you know and continue speaking.
Remember
You can now talk about who you are, where you are from, where you live, your family, and what you do every day.
Your German is becoming more useful because you are learning to talk about your real life.
The goal is not to memorise a perfect paragraph. The goal is to become comfortable creating simple sentences as you speak.
Speak every day. Repeat familiar phrases. Add one new idea at a time. That is how confidence grows.
